Travel Tip - Travel Money Tips

When you have booked your travel, the next important thing is to check the currency of the destination so you can make the necessary arrangements.

Here are some tips to help prepare:

Notify Your Bank
A few traditional high-street banks still require you to notify them if you plan to use your card abroad, in order to avoid potential fraud checks or account blocks.

Consider a Prepaid Travel Card
These cards allow you to load money in specific currencies and use them like debit cards. They’re not linked to your bank account, offering added security. Many offer locked exchange rates and low fees.

Online Banks and Apps
Banking apps like Revolut, Wise and Monzo allow you to spend abroad without issue, transfer money globally, and often offer better exchange rates than traditional banks. They’re app-controlled and often come with budgeting features.

Cash
Carrying some local currency is wise for tips, taxis, markets or emergencies. Exchange money before you leave and try to avoid airport kiosks who will offer poor rates.

Credit Cards
Some credit cards are travel-friendly and don’t charge extra for purchases abroad. They’re useful for hotels, car rentals and emergencies, but use them responsibly to avoid interest charges.

Keep a mix of payment options and never store all your money in one place. Divide funds between your wallet, luggage and a secure digital option. Always know your bank’s international contact number in case your card is lost or blocked.

What is your favourite currency method?
