Travel Tip - Check Visa Requirements Before Travelling

Most countries require some type of visa or travel authorisation for you to be allowed entry. As most travel is for short term, you will most likely require only the travel authorisation instead of a full visa. It’s important to check gov.uk for up to date requirements.

Checking helps to avoid the following issues:

Entry Denial Prevention

You might be denied boarding/entry if you do not have the correct visa/travel authorisation in place.

Fines and Legal Issues

You might receive a fine, be removed from the country and potentially banned from travelling to that country again.

Time and Cost Considerations

Make sure to apply for your visa in plenty of time as some can have a long processing time, and also check the fees for applying for a visa/travel authorisations.

Visa/Travel Authorisation Conditions

Make sure to read all the conditions, as there might be duration restrictions, work limitations, or proof of funds requirements.

Changing Regulations

Visa/travel authorisations regulations are updated regularly, so make sure to check the official government or embassy websites for up to date regulations.

Important: For UK travellers remember to keep up to date with the EU travelling regulations, as the new EU travel authorisation ETIAS will be coming into force in late 2026.

However as of 12 October 2025, the new Entry/Exit System (ESS) will be in force, it will collect your passport data, facial image, and fingerprints, which will be stored electronically to improve passport control when entering and exiting EU countries. It will be valid for three years before having to complete the process again.
