Travel Tip - Travel Money

First thing to do is check the currency of your destination, for instance most of the EU accepts Euros however Czech Republic doesn’t, it still uses Czech koruna, so make sure before changing any money.

Decide how to you want to take the money, for instance you might to change all your cash into the destination currency cash, or you might be happy with just using your card.

Check if you need to notify your bank, for instance my main bank, which is high street bank, still requires me to notify them. I just add the travel plans on the bank app. However, the new online banks might allow you to spend abroad without informing them. Make sure to check your terms.

Think about getting a prepaid travel card, which you can load money on in specific currencies and then use them like a debit card when you are abroad.

Look into a travel credit card, some banks offer 0% foreign transaction fees and favourable exchange rates but be careful, if you don’t pay your balance off in full straightaway you will might be charged higher interest rates compared to standard credit cards.

It is probably best to keep a mix of payment options and never store all your money in one place. Divide funds between your wallet, luggage, and a secure digital option. Always know your bank’s international contact number in case your card is lost or blocked.

What form of travel money do you use?
